The Cordyceps sinensis mushroom used to be an absolute rarity because it was very expensive, as the "real" Cordyceps sinensis only grew in inaccessible areas of Tibet on the head of a caterpillar living at an altitude of 4.000 m. Only a research group from the USA succeeded in cultivating the original Tibetan Cordyceps mycelium by simulating the very special climatic conditions of the low-oxygen, cold highlands of Tibet. This created the conditions for a Cordyceps sinensis that is on a par with the wildly collected ones in terms of the characteristics of the ingredients and is still inexpensive.
