Reishi Paragon - Concentrated multi-stage dual extract
Reishi Paragon has been one of the highest quality Reishi extracts on the market for a number of years. Its superior quality and therapeutic efficacy have made it one of our best-selling products since its release half a decade ago. However, despite its high status, we saw that there were still some facets of this drug that could be tweaked and improved. Reishi Paragon has now outdone itself - it is our most potent and richest Reishi extract ever.
Regenerative farming methods
First, we have evolved the cultivation process - originally, Reishi Paragon was made from organic, wood-grown fruiting bodies that underwent a multi-step, double-extraction process to yield the resulting high-potency extract powder. However, the mushrooms are now simulated wild - from wild strains of the best quality and according to the principles of Di Tao cultivated.
"Di Tao ' literally means 'authentic method' or 'from the source'. Di Tao cannot be imitated simply because it is unique due to its geographical location and is bred under conditions that simulate its original, wild environment. This means that the mushrooms are grown in the same pristine mountain forests where wild Reishi grows. In this way, the mushrooms are grown on the same wood from the same forest, immersed in exactly the same soil where the same symbiotic microorganisms are present, the weather is the same, the same water irrigates the cultivated mushrooms as the wild specimens, etc.
dual extraction
Once the ripe fruit body has been harvested, it is washed to remove any remaining impurities, then dried and finally pulverized into a fine-grained powder. This creates maximum surface area, making the extraction process exponentially more effective.
The mushroom powder is then placed in purified water - the hot water decoction is completed in a pressure vessel simmering below 100°C. The pressurized environment is necessary to inhibit the denaturation of the water-soluble compounds. Upon completion, the water extract is filtered from the powder and more water is added for another brew. In total, this process is carried out three times separately and finally combined. Next, after removing the filtrate from the hot water extraction, the powder is macerated in ethanol and this process is again repeated three times before it is complete. After all the alcohol-soluble compounds have been captured by the ethanol, the filtrate is again separated from the fungal material. The liquids (water and ethanol) are both precipitated from the extracts, so all the nutrients and beneficial compounds are contained in the rich, concentrated solid that is left, with no residual water or alcohol whatsoever. Next, this concentrate is converted into a very fine, dry powder that requires spray freeze drying. Low temperature drying is ideal as it preserves the structural integrity and potency of the extract. Once the extract is completely dry, it is again filtered through a very fine sieve.
Before the extract is sealed in airtight containers ready for sale, a sample should be taken for testing; Tests firstly to ensure the absence of contaminants and secondly for the presence of biologically active compounds that should have been captured by the extraction processes.
Bioactive Compounds
To verify medicinal potency, Reishi Paragon was third-party lab tested for both of the main groups of therapeutic compounds found in this mushroom – beta-D-glucans and triterpenoids. To date, more than 100 fungal polysaccharides have been isolated from the fruiting body, many of which are beta-D-glucans. These ingredients are largely responsible for the beneficial influence of this fungus on immune cells such as macrophages, lymphocytes and cytokines.
Likewise, more than 130 different triterpenoid compounds have been discovered in Reishi fruit bodies, spores and mycelia, with over 140 triterpene subtypes including a wide range of unique ganoderic acids. These triterpenes have shown remarkable therapeutic properties; antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiallergic, cytotoxic to malignant cells, hepatoprotective and regulatory of many cardiovascular functions.
Beta-D-glucans are captured via the hot water extraction phase, while triterpenes are ethanol soluble and are collected during this second phase of the extraction. Because of this, a multi-stage double extraction is required to harvest anything of medicinal value from the fruiting body. Because of this, beta-D-glucans and triterpenes cannot both be very high in a single extract as they are the result of separate extractions. Most products will advertise high percentages of polysaccharides, but that simply means that the extract is predominantly (or exclusively) a hot water extract that contains little (or no) triterpenes.
Previously, Reishi Paragon contained about 30% beta-D-glucans but only 5% triterpenes. While this was already an exceptional product, we worked to narrow this gap so that the end result reflects the finest specimens of wild Reishi with naturally high triterpene levels. The latest batch of Reishi Paragon contains 10,56% Beta-D-Glucans and a whopping 8,7% Triterpenes! This is our most potent and balanced Reishi Extract yet! Take a look at the authorized Supplement Facts label for this product in the image gallery at the top of this page.
Finally, this extract is packaged in Miron violet glass - the highest quality glass in the world - to protect and preserve the integrity of this outstanding medicinal product from degradation caused by UV radiation.
Understanding Reishi Supplements
Most mushroom extracts are either just hot water extracts and contain no triterpenes at all, or they are double extracts (hot water & ethanol) but the double extraction is done in a single step (water & ethanol combined). This creates an impure, low potency double extract that is low in bioactive markers that we are looking for.
Regarding Reishi, a thorough multi-step extraction of high-quality fruiting bodies should result in a final product rich in bioactive markers such as Reishi-specific beta-glucans 1>3 and 1>6 and triterpenes (ganoderic acids, lucidic acids, etc.). There are hundreds of medicinally active compounds in Reishi, but these are some of the bioactive compounds that are naturally present in the highest amounts, are the most researched, and fundamentally involved in the health benefits we expect from a Reishi supplement. Therefore, it is important that we can test these as markers for a high-quality Reishi extract.
Beneficial effects are, of course, the result of an interrelationship between numerous compounds - some of which are present in minute amounts - but when a Reishi product contains negligible amounts of beta-glucans and triterpenes, we cannot expect it to be medicinally useful.
The overwhelming majority of products will not state the exact presence of these compounds simply because they are not present in any significant amount, if any. A high level of polysaccharides is also not a reliable marker, as many manufacturers use dextrin, maltodextrin or cornstarch as additives to increase the overall polysaccharide content, even though they are not derived from Reishi and have no medicinal value.
Therefore, analyzing for specific beta-glucans gives us a clear picture of how potent a Reishi supplement is, and the percentage of triterpenes shows us that double extraction has indeed taken place and many important sterols and triterpenoids are present. The higher the percentages show that a multi-stage extraction process has been carried out and that the product is optimally effective and free of therapeutically useless fillers and additives.
Reishi Paragon exemplifies the true power of the Reishi mushroom as it was created for the sole purpose of delivering reliable quality and potency without sacrificing any.
