Pine pollen is one of the most complete food sources found in the natural world. It has 20 different amino acids, 8 of which are “essential” because they cannot be synthesized in the human body and must come from the diet. This makes pine pollen a complete source of protein. It contains omega-3 fatty acids (ALA) and vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6 and B9.
It also contains the fat-soluble vitamins A (beta-carotene), E and D - pine pollen contains both vitamin D2 and the extremely rare bioactive D3 found in a plant. It also possesses an impressive array of key trace minerals, immune-boosting polysaccharides, methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), DNA-forming nucleic acids, live enzymes, and a slew of antioxidants. It actually stimulates the production of our body's endogenous antioxidants, glutathione and superoxide dismutase (SOD).
What pine pollen has become best known for in the West in recent years is its role as a powerful phytoandrogen - a plant that contains steroid-like compounds identical to testosterone and other androgenic hormones such as DHEA and progesterone, among others. This makes pine pollen an effective drug for the endocrine system, especially for those who pass middle age and whose levels of serum androgen hormones are rapidly declining.
However, when we buy pine pollen products, we buy them either as a powder or as an alcohol-based extract. The powder is intensely nourishing, but does not have the same hormonal effects as the tincture, as all hormonal sterols in pine pollen are alcohol-soluble. Therefore, the tincture is not really suitable for children or young adults, as these are usually not suitable.
The powder is extremely versatile and can be used as a superfood powder for smoothies and recipes, and it makes a great flour, soup thickener and makes a great addition to homemade desserts! It can also be used to make instant drinks - both hot and cold. It is perfectly safe for everyone to consume - men, women and children of all ages.
Nyishar Wild Mountain Pine Pollen is harvested deep in the pristine mountains of Changbai in Jilin Province in Northeast China, far away from the contamination of industry and civilization. Pollen is collected at high altitude (1500m above sea level) for two weeks every March, when the vast landscape of pine trees is in bloom. Pollen is only harvested from mature trees that are capable of producing complex and nutritious pollen, as opposed to younger trees whose pollen has less nutritional and medicinal value.
Impurities are removed from the harvested pollen by airflow separation. Then the cell wall of the pollen grains is “ruptured” through the process of breaking the pressurized low temperature vibrating airflow, making the immense nutrients they contain bioavailable to the human digestive system. This ensures that around 99% of all pollen grains are successfully broken up and able to pass through a 250 mesh screen.
The cell wall of pollen grains is very tough, so using technology of this type can maximize the availability and absorption of the therapeutic compounds in pine pollen (see comparison slides in the photo gallery). On average, this improves the nutrient density of pine pollen by at least 20%.
